What is a Hurricane

Hurricane is a type of storm that observed usually at the time of tropical depression.

The tropical depression, otherwise called a tropical cyclone, is a type of low-pressure system forms in the tropics and important part of the atmospheric circulation system, which moves heat from the equatorial region toward the higher latitudes. It's looks like a large, rotating system of clouds, wind and thunderstorms.

A tropical cyclone, which forms in the Atlantic Ocean north of the equator, is named Atlantic hurricanes.

When is Hurricane Season

The time during which most systems are expected to form called hurricane season and begin from June 1 to November 30.

The statistical peak of the North Atlantic hurricane season is September 10.

Hurricane Names

Hurricanes are given names beforehand. For that uses 126 men and women names, listed at the alphabet order. All letters in hurricane names are used except Q, U, X, Y and Z. The name lists are recycled after six years: the hurricane names not retired from this list will be used again.

North Atlantic Ocean storms are named by the U.S. National Hurricane Center.

2003 Hurricane Season

At first time I didn't generally notice that hurricane season already started. At the day the bright hot sun was shining like usually, rainbows sparkled in the sky, the sea was warm and tender. And only three months later after the beginning of the season I was informed that three huge hurricanes and storms, which rarely being on the Dominica, already passed.

Why I didn't notice them – it is understandable. Because all rain spilt at night, and it was a very sweetly to sleep under sounds of drops on the roof and a howl of wind, to feel a nice coolness, blowing from the open window – pleasant quiet floated in the soul.

At the workdays I was sitting in the room and flowing from roofs spurts of rains only helped me additionally to concentrate on my job. But the most surprise was that every weekend the sun shone brightly as if sky closed tap on this time.

Generally speaking, 2003 hurricane season was quiet and radiant. It's seemed, that always must to be like that on this blessed island, therefore I sincerely astonished why some of co-workers made the seriously meaning for this time.

2004 Hurricane Season

2004 Hurricane Ivan
September 5, 2004 – time 11:18:00

From reports at the meteorological sites we knew news that the strong hurricane Ivan coming to the Dominica direction. By proposed trajectory and science he will be complicatedly to miss our island, expected at the Tuesday.

I have realized completely that I was brought on the small island with nine volcanoes in the middle of the ocean: around only water, space and the raged element. Good luck :) I believe it's possible to reach an understanding with our Ivan.
Similarity with hurricane David 1979
September 5, 2004 – time 16:28:00

During last four hours the power of hurricane grew up from one to three, it comes by the same trajectory that hurricane David 1979: thus turning a speed, in such a way directing to Martinique and St. Lucia, and most likely, then will come to the Dominica. Even if it will deflect a little bit that will not pass away my blessed island.

At last such of power hurricane so many people were dead in the Dominica. It is said, that at one time David just licked off all small homes and hovel at the shore.

Sensations and can a man to feel an approaching disaster?
September 5, 2004 – time 18:36:00

Honestly do you want to know my sensations?
I am good. The second time in my life I feeling myself alive. The blood is boiling, eyes are shining, and all accumulated lately fatigue is gone: want to do, create and live on full power. Notwithstanding that hurricane bears disasters, but with him comes changes.
Ask me now, can a man to feel an approaching disaster?
If I didn't know about that hurricane is coming, I might to brush off my dreams, headache, and strangely, yesterday, when I was swimming at the Champagne beach, which seemed another: there was unusual haze with glimpsed fleetingly shades, in which I was peering and my heart was freeze on the moment (before I felt just an interest); the air come from the bottom of the sea with more quick than usual.

Only thing is pity, that is connect will be dead: no lights, no internet and mobile too, I believe. So, good luck. Do you know where you can find me, right? :)
What to do, if hurricane is coming to you?

Imagine that hurricane is coming to you and it's so late to order a ticket on the airplane, what will you do then?

At first, think where to hide better.

Hovel or simple wood home at the coast will not save you: in the best case it will flood by waves risen hurricane, in the worst case it will take out to the sea and nobody will not able to find your tracks. On the Caribbean the building of new houses already have thought over: piles are beaten deeply in the land, so if roof will be taken out then walls will stay.

The better way to wait till the hurricane will over on the lower cellar of houses, but remember that home located in the low-lying areas is danger to be flooded, on the top of mountains to be gone by wind. And of course, don't forget to board up windows because glasses can't fly and wound a man.

At second, think what you want to save and keep this with yourself.

Only that I did important from all of this to prepare for hurricane Ivan – just made cockroaches be afraid by clearing up my home. It turned out that my home was in the full order and it always ready for element disasters. :))
- All souvenirs for relatives and pictures is packed and hidden in the protected place
- All content of computer is copied: pictures, location music (I just wonder how many great things I had time to acquire for save). I think to put it with passport and money in the backpack together (I wish straps will not come out from me).
Oh! I need to clothe a bicycle helmet on my head – perhaps it's the most costly thing (I mean the head) :)))
In the waits of hurricane
September 5, 2004 – time 21:10:00

People on the streets are calm like boas, and slowly coming back from rivers and rest. Women are sitting also laziness on the porches, doing friends hair for the new week. Big-bellied or svelte men are walking barefoot around them, drinking a bear and talking with each other merrily. Nothing changed in the habits. It seems for me, they entrusted their fate at the hand of God long time ago and now just live, not taking a part in races for some phantasmal goals. They have nothing to lost and that is made them freedom.

Today I opened the old bottle of wine and sat on the handrail of porch with full glass to watch for the sunrays playing on the slope of mountains, and I believe that will just oversleep Tuesday and this hurricane.
Fairy story about how had been taken away hurricane from island.
September 7, 2004 – work time

While the hurricane Ivan was on his way to the island, we amused ourselves by talks and fairy stories. So, the story was related to me about miraculous rescue of island at 3-4 years ago, when some hurricane was moving to the Dominica at next time.

It is said, that he developed such power, which could turn the island to uninhabited. And all population went to churches and prayed to save the island. As result, the hurricane suddenly changes trajectory behind several kilometers from Dominica and came out in the perpendicular direction.
After tomorrow or after hurricane
September 8, 2004 – time:13:00

The air will bears only those, only those,
Who believe in themselves.

The hurricane Ivan was passing away in the distance of several steps from the island, but touched by the wall of strong rain and wind.

Need more often to feel of coming hurricanes :)) Most things get simple.
