Exotic of Far Countries

or where dreams bring us

Smile of the cat
- Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?
- That depends a good deal on where you want to get to, - said the Cat.
- I don't much care where - said Alice.
- Then it doesn't matter which way you go, - said the Cat.
- so long as I get SOMEWHERE, - Alice added as an explanation
- Oh, you're sure to do that, - said the Cat, - if you only walk long enough.

"Alice's adventures in wonderland" Lewis Carroll
From childhood I was dreaming about far countries located beyond seven seas and seven mountains, magic and hidden from the ordinary person. I loved to read fairy tales and books about Caribbean pirates and treasures hidden there, about Tarzan, who was born in the jungle and Alice traveling in Wonderland. I remember how classmates in school laughed on me: they stole from my notebook my verses about fairytale heroes. Years passed. Everyone got what they believe in: they are reliable job for to work 24 hours a day, I have got an aroma of the sea, entering my window with trade wind and the right to dispose my time as I like.

How my travel was started or about what kind of fairy tales do you like?

Five cruise ships in one day
Dominica, Caribbean - 29 January, 2009

While the crisis is uprising around the globe, destroying the destiny and plans of people, Dominica is calm and even better than usual: oil cheaper and the price on food, transport, electricity and other services go down. The US dollar rose and the East Caribbean bind to it. Dominica banks didn't play with credits and now stands strong. Americans canceled all trips to Europe and decided to have vacation close - at the Caribbean. Yesterday I saw how Roseau's coast was surrounded by five cruise ships and as I was told it was several in Portsmouth. The capital was filled with quests and it seemed that they were in many times more than local, who hiding in cool offices. The sea is warm as usual, the sun is bright as always, fruits is fresh and a lot of fish - good to live in the Caribbean :)

Domnitjen Magazine, Dec-Mar 2008-09
Several of my photos from the opening of the 2008 Independence Season at the Winsdor Park Stadium was published in the local magazine - "Domnitjen Magazine" (Volume 5 Issue 3, Dec 2008–Mar 2009, pages 13-14).

After that I created a new page:

Unspoiled Nature Island in the Danger
I read in the newspaper that the Prime Minister is going to sign the contract with Venezuela to build Oil Refinery in Dominica. One more pristine corner will be erased from our planet with one stroke of the pen. I'm lost for words but my emotions speak aloud.

The economy of this country will be finally undermined:

Firstly, tourist will not show up here anymore - which person would travel through all this complications just to get to an island with permeated smell of oil? As a result, not only the people, who work in the tourism industry (hotels, guides, divers and others), will lose their jobs, but also the people who serve them - shops, supermarkets and etc.

Secondly, it will agriculture end: who wants to buy bananas, coffee and other products grown on the oil? Rare species of fish will become extinct, giant turtles and whales will not be here anymore too.

Thirdly, all smart people, who do something or understand the situation on the island, will the first to flee hence; the rest of people will just follow them later. As a result, on the island it will remain 400 staff of oil refinery and 400 firefighters to extinguish explosions.

That is such a joyful picture of the future for the pristine nature island, which is listed by UNESCO as a greatest world heritage.

19 August 2007
Hurricane Dean finally passed Dominica. He was testing the island by strong wind and rains and leaved several remains after himself: rivers overflow the banks, trees felt, and some homes lost roofs. People were scared, but it was no deaths.

The water came back at evening of Saturday, the electricity more early. Mobile connection worked all time during hurricane: you were able to call from island and to Dominica. Only sms had been received with delaying in four hours.
17 August 2007
There is hurricane which is heading right for the islands of St. Lucia, Martinique and Dominica. The storm will hit the island early Friday morning around 12:00am. So depending on what happens, most likely all telephone lines or other forms of communication might be down over the weekend.

At first you can heard the wind beginning to pick up strength and outside is completely overcast. And you have to shut down the computer and go to wait.

Right now I am not in Dominica. At the end of June I decided to come back to Russia on several months. Is it my intuition?
